ATV and UTV riding, while not eliciting quite as much passion as cheering on the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team, nevertheless is an appreciated pastime for a large number of Nebraskans. Big Elk Park
Location: 906 Co Road 36, Macy, NE
Located on an Indian Reservation, this area offers beautiful scenery, sandstone cliffs, Indian historical sites and 21 miles of ATV trails. The trails mainly weave through wooded areas over the hills running alongside the Missouri river. When the weather cooperates, plan to get mega-muddy with the mudding trails you’ll find here.
Cedar Run ATV Trail
Location: South of the dam at Harlan County Lake, Republican City, NE

This is a free, family-friendly, 470-acre off-road park just southwest of the dam at Harlan County Reservoir that offers ATV riders and UTV riders a wonderful opportunity to get dirty, in large part because the land used to be submerged before drying out during a drought. The result is mud bogs that can lead to some challenging ATV riding excitement. The main trail is two-way, marked and around 9 miles long. The terrain is primarily a mix of grassy meadows and hilly, tree-lined areas, and is well-suited to beginning and intermediate riders.
Fiddler Creek MX Park
Location: 824 Fiddler Creek Rd, Homer, NE

A private park requiring a membership, Fiddler features a main track which includes table-tops, whoop sections, step-ups, and more built into the hill-side, along with a mini-track open to riders 9 years of age and younger. ATV riding trails consist of mostly berms, with a little sand, lots of small jumps, a few large jumps and some mud bogs. Great for intermediate riders with some areas that will appeal to both beginning ATV riders, and others that will provide some challenge for expert ATV riders.
McKelvie National Forest

This national forest has a massive area spanning 116,000 acres of forest land packed with ponderosa pines, Scots pines and eastern junipers, populated with wild turkeys, hawks, pheasants, foxes, coyotes, and whitetail deer. Though there are many trails, many of them aren’t pronounced and due to a lack of signage, many ATV riders and UTV riders wind up getting lost. That’s just part of the fun! Many of the trails are sand, and you can expect some mud bogs as well.
Nebraska National Forest

Encompassing over 140,000 acres, the Nebraska National Forest offers 4-wheeler riders 300 miles of roads and a diverse landscape including forests and grasslands, along with an abundance of wildlife that like eagles, hawks, and falcons, and big game like mule-deer, white-tailed deer and antelope. There are two distinct areas of the Nebraska National Forest. One section is situated in the northwest panhandle south and west of Chadron, and includes approximately 80 miles of trails in the 140,000 acres that make up the Pine Ridge Ranger District. The other is located near Halsey in central Nebraska, covers more than 90,000 acres, and is the largest hand-planted forest in the world. Both are home to some of the best ATV trails Nebraska has to offer.
The Bessey OHV Trail, winding through forests and across grasslands, is one of the few motorized ATV trail riding areas in Nebraska open to the public. Over 36 miles of trails are sandy and contain a mixture of straightaways and tight curves. The trail system includes two open areas, the Hill Climb and the Dismal. Other trails in the Nebraska National Forest to consider riding include Dismal River Trail, Power Line Trail, Poison Ivy Trail, Fence Line Trail and Scott Tower.
Off-Road Ranch
Location: 2900 Old Hwy 8, Norfolk, NE

This area offers 30 acres of 4-wheeler riding fun, and has a 300-foot drag strip that is sandy just like most of the trails, freestyle ramps and a peewee track. The complex includes the Off Road Speedway, KartWheels Track, and 320 MX Park, which is host to Motocross, ATV, and UTV Races periodically though the year.
